Antigua Guatemala Sustainable Coffee Tour

Explore the traditional methods used in local coffee production and farming from bean to cup.

Itinerary

The Antigua Guatemala sustainable coffee tour begins at 8:30 in the morning, with a transfer to the community at the foot of the Agua volcano.

Upon arrival, you will have a warm welcome from a local family. Then you will board a pick-up truck for your transfer to the plantation on the volcano’s slopes.

Here, you will receive an introduction to the world of coffee, the process of managing organic plantations, and the importance of shade-grown coffee.

You will be provided with a basket to live the experience of harvesting the coffee beans. Afterward, you will be transferred to the mill house to learn about other activities that are part of the process, such as weighing the coffee and washing it.

The pulping process carried out on adequately adapted bicycles using human energy is very peculiar. Therefore, you will also visit the fermentation and drying area.

An exciting part of the tour is the experience of grinding in the traditional Mayan way, using the “Metate” or grinding stone. In addition, a coffee pot will be prepared and tasted in the conventional way practiced by local families.

Then you will take a short walk to the family cafeteria to share a lunch and enjoy specialty coffees prepared in machines such as cappuccinos, lattes, etc.

At the end of this experience, you will be transferred to your hotel
